Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA) (IATA: AMD, ICAO: VAAH) is an international airport serving the cities of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar in Gujarat, India.

The airport is located in Hansol, 9 km (5.6 mi) north of central Ahmedabad. The new terminal has a half kilometre long moving walkway, which connects the two terminals. The airport serves as hub for the low-cost carrier Spicejet and as a focus city for Air India, Blue Dart Aviation, GoAir and Jet Airways.

BHAVNAGAR AIRPORT:

Bhavnagar Airport (IATA: BHU, ICAO: VABV) is located South-East of Bhavnagar in the state of Gujarat, India. Located 9 km in North from Bhavnagar Railway Station.

Bhavnagar Airport is spread over 294 acres of land and serves ports and port based industries developed in its vicinity. It has a single runway oriented 07/25 measuring 1920 by 45 metres equipped with an ILS on runway 25.

The airport has a small terminal building that can handle 100 passengers per hour for both arrival and departure sections. Its 350 by 250 foot apron can handle two Boeing 737 aircraft simultaneously.

BHUJ AIRPORT:

Bhuj Airport (IATA: BHJ, ICAO: VABJ) is a domestic airport located in Bhuj in the Kutch District of the state of Gujarat, India. The Airport is located 3 km away from the town center and it is situated at an altitude of 257 feet (78 m) and occupies a total area of 832 acres (337 ha). It is located 30 miles (48 km) from the Indo-Pakistan border.

The airport was previously made up of two bunkers/buildings near the Bhuj Rudra Mata Air Force Base, with which it shares the runway. On one side of the passing road there was an Indian Airlines bunker, and on the other side a Jet Airways bunker. From there a coach would transport passengers across the Indian Air Force grounds to the small departures terminal.

The airport can handle aircraft up to the size of an Airbus A320, while the apron can accommodate two Boeing 737-800 aircraft at the same time. There is also a permanent helipad located at Bhuj Airport.

FACILITIES

The airport has a single terminal that handles all arrivals and departures. The terminal can handle 350 passengers at a time.

The airport has 71,920 square feet (6,682 m2) area on the ground floor and 14,880 square feet (1,382 m2) on the first floor. It has two boarding gates and has the capacity for up to 200 people arriving and 200 people departing. There are four check-in counters and one security counter. There is one entry gate and one x-ray baggage scanner provided by Airports Authority of India (AAI).

Shopping facilities are not available in this Airport. Only snack bar are available.

DESTINATION

Jet Airways began operating a flight between Mumbai and Bhuj in 1998. It currently operates two daily flights on this route. Air India also launched its service to Mumbai from here in May 2014. The flight will be operated by Air India Regional, the wholly owned subsidiary of Air India, five days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

JAMNAGAR AIRPORT:

Jamnagar Airport or the Govardhanpur Airport Jamnagar (IATA: JGA, ICAO: VAJM) is an airport in Jamnagar, Gujarat, India. It is owned by the Indian Air Force and also permits both commercial as well as private flights. The Jaguar squadron based in Jamnagar was awarded best squadron by Air Chief Marshal, and the Jamnagar base was awarded the ‘Best Flying Station’ for the year 2006. It is the only airport in Gujarat which has two runways.

According to a survey conducted by GIDB (Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board), traffic at Jamnagar Airport grew at 15% between 2003 and 2008. Compared to other airports in Gujarat, Jamnagar Airport has low market share but high growth. The domestic passenger demand would increase by 6% between 2016 to 2020.

During the evacuation of the people from Yemen in April 2015, a C-17 Globemaster of the Indian Air Force was sent to Djibouti from the Jamnagar Airport.

FACILITIES

Jamnagar Airport has a single terminal spread over 35 acres. It has a capacity to handle 150 passengers at a given time. It has a small lounge including a cafeteria before the check-in counter. There is a conveyor belt in the arrivals area for the luggage. The parking apron adjoining the terminal measures 295 ft x 295 ft and can handle two Airbus A320s simultaneously.

The airport has a car parking capacity of about 50 cars.

In 2012, the government announced plans for the expansion of the terminal along with several other airports of the state.

DESTINATION

Jamnagar Airport has daily scheduled flight to Mumbai served by Air India used an Airbus A319. From the winter of 2015, Air India is going to operate the larger Airbus A320 instead of the A319.

KANDLA AIRPORT:

Kandla Airport or Gandhidham Airport (IATA: IXY, ICAO: VAKE) is located north of Kandla and Gandhidham in the Kutch District of the state of Gujarat, India.

The airport was built in the late 1950s. Indian Airlines commenced passenger operations in 1960 using their Avro aircraft and was followed by Vayudoot. Gujarat Airways and Jet Airways also used to operate flights to Mumbai until 1999. After a gap of seven years, commercial services resumed again in October 2006 with Air Deccan operating daily services between Mumbai and Kandla using ATR aircraft until the airline ceased operations in 2012 due to lack of passenger.

The Airport is spread over an area of 268.2 Acres and has a terminal building capable of handling 100 passengers at a time. Its apron measuring 90 m x 60 m has two parking bays for ATR aircraft. The airport has Navigational facilities and Landing Aids like NDB and PAPI.

The Airport is managed and control by Airports Authority of India (AAI). No scheduled commercial operations in this Airport at the moment.

KESHOD AIRPORT:

Keshod Airport (IATA: IXK, ICAO: VAKS) is a public airport located in Keshod, in the state of Gujarat, India. It primarily serves the cities of Junagadh and Veraval and the surrounding region.

The airport is located at an elevation of 167 ft (51 m) above mean sea level. It has one paved runway designated 05/23 oriented by measures of 4,500 ft (1,372 m) in length with asphalt surface. The Airport was refurbished and revived in the late 1980s to facilitate scheduled operations.

Keshod Airport was built by the Nawab of Junagadh, Mahabatkhanji III for his private use, by acquiring land from Kotadias (the Patel community). The last airline to fly here was Jet Airways, which ceased flying to Keshod Airport in 2000.

The Airport is managed and control by Airports Authority of India (AAI) and has no scheduled commercial operations in this Airport at the moment.

DEESA AIRPORT:

Deesa Airport (also spelled Disa Airport) is an airport in Deesa, Gujarat originally built to serve the princely state of Palanpur.

The airport is located at an elevation of 485 ft (148 m) above mean sea level. It has one paved runway designated 06/24 oriented by measures of 3,300 ft (1,006 m) in length with asphalt surface. The airstrip was not used for the last 2 years, due to the poor condition of the airstrip, adding that it was fit only for paragliding. The airfield was most recently used for a sky diving program in 2013.

In September 2011, A K Gogoi, Commander in Chief, South Western Air Command of the Indian Air Force announced that there was a proposal to develop Deesa Airport into a full fledged Air Base and that the Defence Ministry had approved this proposal. Deesa was chosen due to its strategic location, being close to the international border with Pakistan.

The first phase of this proposal includes spending INR 30 billion on strengthening airport infrastructure. The Airport is managed and control by Airports Authority of India (AAI). There is no scheduled commercial operations in this Airport at the moment.

PORBANDAR AIRPORT:

Porbandar Airport (IATA: PBD, ICAO: VAPR) is a public airport in Porbandar, Gujarat, India. The Airport is located 5 km away from Porbandar Railway Statiion. Apart from civilian operations it also has a military presence in the form of INAS 343 of the Indian Navy and CGAE Porbandar of the Indian Coast Guard. A new terminal building was opened in April 2008.

The airfield is spread over 278.32 Acres, has a 4500 feet long runway and an apron that can accommodate 2 ATR 72 aircraft. The new 4000 square metre Terminal Building at Porbandar Airport has been built at a cost of Rs. 13.50 crore.

The nearest International Airport is located at Ahmadabad, 398 km from this Airport.

NAVAL AIR ENCLAVE

The Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Squadron INAS 343 at the Naval Air Enclave, Porbander was commissioned in January 2011. This is the first Operational UAV Squadron under the Western Naval Command. Nicknamed ‘Frontier Formidables’, the Squadron operates IAI Heron and IAI Searcher MkII UAVs and has the dual tasks of undertaking operational missions besides providing training.

CGAE PORBANDAR

Coast Guard Air Enclave, Porbandar, was commissioned on 12 June 2008. It provides logistical and administrative support to the Dornier Flight and 850 Sqn (ICG) which operates the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH).

SURAT AIRPORT:

Surat Airport is a domestic airport (IATA: STV, ICAO: VASU), located in Magdalla, 11 kilometres south-west of Surat in the Western Indian state of Gujarat. The airport, with a total area of 312 hectares, currently caters to scheduled airline services as well as private aircraft and is also home to a flying training school.

Surat Airport is built by the State government of Gujarat. During the 1990s, Vayudoot and Gujarat Airways had been operating through Surat Airport and both discontinued their flights since May 1994 and January 2000, respectively. The airport, with a 1400-metre airstrip and an adjoining 60 by 40 metre apron was then transferred to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in 2003, who took up the airport for modernisation. After a failed initial attempt in July 2004 to connect Surat with Mumbai and Bhavnagar due to poor airport infrastructure. the now defunct airline Air Deccan operated an ATR 42 aircraft daily from November 2004 to July 2005.

Surat remained the only city in the world with a population of over 4.6 million people without a functioning airport until commercial services resumed on 6 May 2007 with an Indian Airlines Airbus 319 flight to Delhi flagged off by Indian Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel at 1240 IST. By this time, major improvements had been made to the Airport.

FACILITIES

A new Surat airport terminal building was inaugurated on 27 February 2009 by Union Minister of State for Petroleum Dinsha Patel, in the absence of Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, who had to cancel his visit due to unavoidable circumstances. The terminal building, constructed at a cost of Rs 40 crore, has a total floor area of 8,500 sq m and can handle 240 passengers per hour.

It is equipped with CCTV cameras, two Baggage carousels in the arrivals hall and one hand baggage X-ray machine, among other modern facilities. Soon, the terminal building will have two air bridges with Visual Docking Guidance System, two elevators and two escalators, and a 120-seat lounge. also, Coffee Culture and other shops have been added after that.
